Suburban Discontent Lyrics

Pantomime

When you said it, I didn’t listen.

When you touched me, I didn’t feel a thing.

When you showed me, I had my eyes shut tight.

What are you saying?

I’ve got that sinking feeling,

Scratching, creeping, right through me now.

We can control it for a minute.

And how can we get back into it,

Our pantomime, just for show.

It’s killing us, to be like this, tonight.

I saved those pictures, but I can’t see them.

We’re here and breathing, so close and near.

We’re really trying.  This means a lot to me.

The night is ending, and I’ve got that

Sinking feeling, scratching, creeping

Right through me now.

We can control it, for but a minute and how

Can we get back to it?

Our pantomime, just for show.

It’s killing us, to be like this, tonight.

It’s killing me, to be like this, tonight.

Half as Much

You put your hands on my shoulder and everything is turning gray. You say that we’ve gotten older. Paths gone our separate ways.

Hold me just a little longer, so many things left unsaid. If only I’d just been bolder, maybe you’d still be here with me.

Why didn’t you tell me then? When I was young and wanted.

Why didn’t you tell me then? Now I’m old and want for more.

Why didn’t you tell me then? When fell for your comfort.

Why didn’t you tell me then? I should have never loved you more.

Broken thoughts, shattered dreams, I’m always left here waiting. All this time I’ve spent waiting for you.

Now I’m lost, a busted screen. Oh, if only you loved me half as much, as the way I love you.

Oh, why didn’t you tell me then? When I was young and wanted.

Why didn’t you tell me then? Now I’m old and want for more.

Why didn’t you tell me then? When fell for your comfort.

Why didn’t you tell me then? I should have never loved you more.

I should’ve never loved you more.

Soaring Death Song

Days of my life, off to a bad start, eyes shut tight, I fall apart. No friends, fun, and no home, we’re lying in the sun.

Felt the steel, the ice in my veins, clock hands puncturing my sides. Won’t frown, ain’t gonna drown, will morning never come?

No time. Never enough time, for what I wanna do when I wanna do it.

Leave me here, just take off, let me bleed and fly on high above. Don’t look at the blood.

I was dropped, left by the side, no self pity, no way home. Oh, can’t you see that i give up completely.

Felt myself fall out through my feet, didn’t even try to hold on. You talk about endurance, and you talk about a strength you can’t understand.

No time. Never enough time, for what I wanna do when I wanna do it.

Leave me here, just take off, let me bleed and fly on high above. Don’t look at the blood.

Moving Day

An entry, roof and windows, bedrooms, floors and doors. What makes a house a home, ‘cuz I still feel alone.

Memories and pictures hold nothing warm for me. Christmas Eve and Easter, just two more days to me.

Buried face in hands, I tighten my eyes closed.A mix of wine and pain leaving me exposed.

Hold on tight to me, I’m headed for the floor.I’m hanging on to hope, ‘cuz I have nothing more.

Say you’ll be there, say I’ll be safe again. You’re still here, watch you fade again.

The signs says, “count my blessings.” But I can only see the years. Self-absorption. Pity. Don’t mean a fucking thing.

Remember us last winter? Wind-swept and bitter cold, for a frozen moment, then I suddenly felt old

Buried face in hands, I tighten my eyes closed.A mix of wine and pain leaving me exposed.

Hold on tight to me, I’m headed for the floor.Hanging on to hope, ‘cuz I have nothing more.

I am nothing more. I am nothing more.

Anniversary

It’s her anniversary.  She’s laughing nervously, on her second G + T. Her mother sits silently, not knowing what to say.

She even wore the blue dress, hoping it would add finesse. She’s ready to confess, she’s had no caress on this day, for years.

She’s still got hope, she’s not giving in.And in her heart of hearts, he is the one.

It’s late and not a sound, a few friends came around.  Doubts and fears abound. Her feet still on the ground, but there’s a fear.

Her year book’s open, she’s thinking might-have-beens.Grander thoughts again. What if she can?  But she’s losing her mind.

She is losing hope now, she is giving in. And in her heart of hearts, her faith is wearing thin.

The alarm, it rings it in. It’s morning once again. The bed isn’t slept in. It’s coming undone again,  trying to reign it in.

She’s not going to work today. She’s got nothing left to sayShe can’t fake a smile this way.

She’ll do what she may, then she won’t return.

She has lost all hope now, she just gave in.And in her heart of hearts he was another might-have-been.

He was another might-have-been.He was another might-have-been.

Pieces

Every day the sun is shining, wish that you would be mine again.

Marching on like a little soldier, every night I feel a little older, yeah.

Cuz’ I’ve lost all my pieces and the game is almost done.

Going out, it seems like such a nightmare. Wear this smile and make my dinner plans.

Try to think I care and hold onto another. Close the door, it’s getting cold in here.

Cuz’ I’ve lost all my pieces, I’ve lost all my pieces.

And I’ve lost all my pieces, but I put this smile on.

Like December winds, cut, rush, twisting in. My heart is dead inside.

“Let’s be friends!” you say, as my joy slips away and I put this smile on and say,

Every day the sun is always shining, every day the sun is always shining, yeah

Every day The sun is always shining, every day the sun is always shining, yeah

And I’ve lost all my pieces and the other guy has won.

Every day the sun is always shining.
